REPORTS

ACTIONS?

CHAIRPERSON:

There was a further increase of £49.90 in the junior shirt cost, which was £1,215.34, slightly higher than the originally agreed figure of £1,126.80. This was due to uncertainty over which items were subject to VAT. In future we need to get a written quotation.

SECRETARY:

Nothing to report.

TREASURER:

Accounts attached. They are current up to the last bank statement. There has been a bit more activity since. There are a few more payments to come in from the last junior tournaments, but I was late with the invoices. I am trying to get the last two CRC junior invoices corrected before payment. Emails have gone out to initiate the SERL reimbursement process.

FIXTURES (vacant):

RESULTS:

Referees' ratings of teams will be sent out at the start of the coming season.

Mark

SENIOR DEVELOPMENT (Vacant):

(Carla Bennett) Over the season we had 7 training sessions between November and May. 6 of the 7 were open invitation sessions for any players from any club and we generally had 12-14 players aged 14 and above from various clubs. It was nice that we managed to see at least one player from each club, but I would recognise that most sessions were held at the CRC on a Saturday or Friday and so may not be accessible to all.

We took a team of 6:6 to the inter-area tournament in Oxford and came 8th out of 12. We had great representation from across multiple teams in Cambridge with players from 5 teams. We experienced some injuries and were a little unlucky, but on the whole I think the players had a positive experience and would be keen to try again. Looking forward to next year it would be great to have more backing and help from the CKA with perhaps some budget to cover training sessions. This came out of my own pocket this season and I was lucky that enough players turned up each time to cover the costs. I also think that senior development would be improved if we can find ways to attract more players from all clubs to get involved. I don't know if low numbers was due to poor awareness of the sessions or low interest. If the committee wishes me to continue next year I'd welcome any and all suggestions on how to improve attendance.

See item 3.

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT:

REFEREEING:

(Howard) There will be a referee theory course and test on Tuesday 4th July, 7.30 - 10pm, classroom near the entrance to CRC.

COACHING (Vacant):

(Philip) Living Sport offer coaching bursaries for Levels 1 and 2. Gavin to email clubs to gauge demand for a Level 2 course.

Gavin

PUBLICITY:

Contacted Cambridge Independent newspaper, but no response.

CHILD PROTECTION:

1. APPOINTMENT OF FIXTURES OFFICER

Kevin McGuinness was appointed until the AGM.

2. REFEREE THEORY COURSE AND TEST

(Howard) Request to spend £20 for 2.5 hours classroom hire at CRC, including projector, for the referee theory course and test. I think there have been £20 in refereeing fines this season, so this will cover it. Approved.

3. TROPHY ENGRAVING

Request to spend £15 to get the 3 CKL Division trophies engraved with the 2016/17 winners. Approved. The Division 2 trophy was give to Chris Brown, who will get the trophies engraved, from Uni via Howard. Chris already has the Division 1 trophy. Tigers to get the Division 3 trophy to Chris.

4. ROLLING SUBS (AS PER SERL RULES) IN CKL DIVISION 1

(Gavin) Thanks to anyone who has given me feedback or helped to draft the

rolling sub rule change.

(Howard) Some parts of the proposed rules (and the SERL rules) repeat parts of the IKF Playing Rules e.g. maximum 8 substitutions. It would be best to omit these parts.

Change:

4.3.6 A substituted player is {not} allowed to return to the game (Option A{B} in the IKF Playing rules of 1st September 2013).

We will need to add explanatory text underneath the table following 4.1.2.6 to clarify that:

More than 1 row may to apply to a single player in a match and so the status points would need to be totalled

e.g.:

On Pitch Off Pitch

at start during 1st half 2(1)

during 1st half half time 2(1)

during 2nd half during 2nd half 2(1)

during 2nd half during 2nd half 2(1)

during 2nd half at end 2(1)

Note that in the unlikely scenario that you come on in a half, off in the same half, then back on again, off again and on again, this is recorded on the scorecard, but treated as coming on in the half and off in the half just once:

at start during 1st half 2(1)

during 1st half half time 2(1)

during 2nd half during 2nd half 2(1)

[during 2nd half during 2nd half] ignore => 0(0)

during 2nd half at end 2(1)

Total 8(4) i.e. whole match

The scorecard will need to be modified to accommodate 8 substitutions per team. We can send guidance to referees and clubs at the start of the season on practical implications e.g. fill in scorecard as match progresses.

5. FIXTURES LIVE RESULTS

The processes, hold ups and reasons why results information is not entered as promptly as desired were discussed. Sometimes scorecards haven't been entered by referees. The CKA chases these. Laura Neaves should be the Fixtures Live contact for Lions, not Al Andrews - Howard to update email forward. The Results Officer (Mark) must do walkovers, clubs should do nothing. Home clubs should correct the fixture date if it is incorrect. Limited available time from volunteers is the main reason for delays. Howard to email response to the EKA.

Howard

6. EKA PROPOSAL TO EMPLOY A NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Concerns over the cost, which isn't in the proposal, and possible future liabilities of employing someone. Howard to email feedback to the EKA.

7. REVIEW OF MK LAKERS TEAM ENTERED INTO CKL DIVISION 1

(Lianne Anscomb, MK Lakers) One issue that didn't work so well for us were the away fixtures in Cambridge that were really late in the evening, we sometimes struggled to get a team. In general though, all the teams have been really nice to play against and we have enjoyed playing in the league.

Only 3 were weekday evenings - Lions, Phoenix and Uni. Looks like Phoenix won't be in Division 1 anyway. Difficult to get earlier hall times. Lions would like to stick with their home match slot. We think it's unlikely Uni will be able to get hall time at weekends at their home venue. We could ask Uni if they're agreeable to playing at a different venue e.g. CRC.

CKA clubs happy with the current arrangements.
Referees provided via MK for their home matches OK.

MK's rating by referees is low and needs to improve.

8. SENIOR DEVELOPMENT

The senior development targets were discussed.

The google doc of events in Cambridgeshire is likely to be useful in the coming months and future years. Members are reminded to add any relevant dates to the document.

Coordinate a recruitment week event across all CKA clubs. September suggested as the next week. Need to select dates. Already have a poster we can use. City has had results from using 'Meetup' mobile.

Create a list of summer tournaments that could be targeted for attendance by a cross-CKA team.

Low response to Doodle poll to gauge interest in tournaments. Lack of visibility of results before completion and thus commitment may be an issue - players interested may not wish to commit a long time in advance if their commitment is critical to forming a team.

We entered a team for the inter area competition, for the first time in many years. Many thanks to Carla, who was instrumental in this, for all her efforts. Hopefully we can repeat this next year.

CKA's 25th. In 2018, the CKA will be 25 years old. This will be marked with a tournament or public event. With an appropriate venue the tournament could be combined with an evening social allowing attendance at either or both. Ideally there would be the option to camp to allow visiting teams to more easily attend the social. Cambridge Rugby Club was suggested as a venue that had been used in the past. A tournament has also been held previously at the Paradise Centre, Ely. Philip suggested Ely Rugby Club, next door to the Hockey Club (Ely Outdoor Sports Association). Philip to investigate.
